I am looking to make my first arduino project and want the battery to recharge from a solar panel.
How to hook a solar panel into a 9v battery.
I power my workshop with solar.
To get this set up we need to understand that the solar panels usually output direct current dc as earlier mentioned.
However keep in mind that it s safest if you have a way to tell the positive and negative wires apart.
This connection involves three main steps.
It needs a regulator between the panel and the battery.
They are usually wired in parallel to preserve the voltage of each panel but you can also wire sets of them together in series to increase the voltage to conform to the voltage of the battery bank if need be.
From what i can find in maplin and on ebay this will restrict me to about 5v will this be enough to charge a 9v battery.
The regulator will either be mounted on the back of the solar panel or within a battery management system bms.
First wrap the positive red wire from the battery connecter to the black stripped side of the diode.
It s important that you connect the battery connector to the black strip side of the diode otherwise you ll end up blocking power coming from he solar cells.
Check out my other video on how to weld.
Never connect a solar panel directly to a battery.
Connect the panels of a solar bank together if there are more than one.
You can either do this by wrapping bare wires around the battery posts securing the wires to the posts with clamps or by using wires with ring connectors that fit over the posts.
