Some gutters are installed with spikes and sleeves sometimes called spikes and ferrules fig.
How to drill through gutters to replace spike.
Apply seamermate to end with drop and joint as instructed.
With drop connect to the gutter with a seamer or slip joint connector.
These short screws are visible from the front of the gutter farthest from the house and pass through.
Snug the screw up to the gutter being careful not to over tighten it.
When installing new spikes it is good to carefully place new ferrules inside of the gutter in a position so they are directly behind the existing gutter s spike hole.
To replace gutter spikes with screws simply remove the old gutter spike and insert the screw through the existing hole in the front of the gutter.
Use a regular screwdriver or a drill with a screwdriver bit to turn the spike clockwise from the front of the gutter.
Make sure the spike holds the gutters tight against the fascia board so it doesn t dip or sag.
Screw the gutter spike through the back hole in your gutter to secure it.
When extra spikes or sleeves are added use a power drill to make a hole through the gutter before inserting the spike and sleeve.
Trace the opening of the outlet on the outside of the gutter drill.
Carefully insert screws into the existing hole and through the spike hole as well as the ferrule and then finally into the fascia of the house structure.
To use an outlet fi rst make a hole in the gutter for the outlet.
Remove all gutter spikes from along the loose or sagging areas of your gutter using a drill.
