How to bury a gutter drain pipe.
Dig a 14 inch trench where you plan to run your corrugated drainage pipe.
Step 2 lay two inches of gravel inside the trench.
Continue until you have completed the trench.
Lay the downspout drain pipe in the trench.
For the garage i used a downspout adapter without a leaf guard since there aren t trees close enough for that gutter to get clogged up.
To do this i cut the black corrugated pipe added a t and aimed the pipe upwards to the downspout.
Besides making sure the slope is correct you ll want to make sure the pipe run ends in a good location.
Make the trench the same width as the downspout pipe and about 12 inches deep.
Weisman recommends extending the trench at least 8 feet from the downspout if there s available space.
On the flip side burying drain pipe is more work intensive but it s a guaranteed way to keep water away.
The most difficult part is digging the trench.
If your yard is flat or doesn t naturally have the desired slope dig the trench deeper as it extends away from the house to create the slope.
Start laying your drain pipe by attaching a 90 degree angle pipe to the gutter downspout.
Repeat the similar procedure for the other end of the angle to connect it to the ground pipe.
The trench should end at least 6 to 8 feet away from the home.
Dig a trench along the desired route of the drain pipe.
Cover the inside of the fitting with pvc cement and push it into the lower end of the gutter downspout.
We use the builders gravel in the bottom wrap shade cloth or bidem around the pipe so that it does not clog then lay the pipe on the gravel floor.
Since my in ground pipe ran right past the garage i had the garage downspout dump in as well.
We then fill up with more gravel.
Depending on the trench length and more important the type of soil digging the trench with a shovel can range from relatively easy to downright impossible.
